I'm a Principal UX Designer with 22+ years transforming complex eCommerce, advertising and healthcare systems into intuitive digital experiences. But my approach to design extends far beyond my day job.
Whether I'm designing digital experiences, building world-class speakers, or perfecting pizza, I apply the same research-driven, iteration-focused approach to everything I make.
The tools change — Figma vs. VituixCAD, analytics vs. frequency response — but the methodology stays the same: understand needs, prototype solutions, test relentlessly, and deliver quality.
I've been designing and building audiophile-grade speakers since college. Each build follows the same process I use for digital products: research acoustic properties and client preferences, design and simulate in WinISD, REW and VituixCAD, prototype quick solutions, iterate based on frequency response measurements then finish with CNC-cut curved cabinetry.
WinISD helps me calculate optimal enclosure sizes and avoid port noise in bass reflex designs. REW helps take all the initial and final measurements. VituixCAD lets me model crossover networks and predict how drivers will interact. These tools are to speaker design what Figma and prototyping tools are to UX — they let me test ideas before committing to wood and wire.
I've built custom speakers for friends, family, and clients—understanding their listening preferences, room acoustics, and budget constraints the same way I understand user needs in UX work.
During COVID, I designed and built a 16-channel Dolby Atmos home theater in my basement. Two rows of stadium seating, acoustic treatments, custom bar seating, and a complete AV system integration.
This wasn't just a DIY project—it was a full design challenge involving room acoustics, sight lines, lighting design, and user experience for family movie nights.
I bring the same continuous improvement mindset to fitness. Progressive overload, tracking metrics, iterating on form and programming — it's all about testing, measuring, and refining.
Discipline and consistency matter as much in the gym as they do in UX work.
I've spent years perfecting pizzeria-quality pizza at home across multiple styles: NYC, Neapolitan, Sicilian, and Detroit. Hand-crafted dough recipes refined through continuous experimentation.
It's Lean UX with flour — prototype the dough, test with real eaters, iterate based on feedback, and obsess over every detail from hydration ratios to oven temperature.
Most importantly, I'm a father. Empathy, patience, and explaining complex concepts in simple ways are skills I practice every day.
Understanding users starts with understanding people — and nothing teaches you that better than parenting.
